Brief History of AON

The origin of this company dates back to 1918 when the founder joined his mother's insurance company and marketed low-cost, low-benefit accident insurance, as well as issuing policies on-site and underwriting. The following year, Mr. Stone started his firm, Combined Registry Co. During the Great Depression, Stone laid off some workers and provided more training opportunities for the ones left. In 1939, Stone purchased American Casualty Insurance Co. of America. Eight years later, it consolidated with Combined Registry Co to form Combined Insurance Co. of America. In the 70s, the company started establishing international branches. AON quickly established a global reach through acquisitions outside the US.

In 1999, AON announced a new fee disclosure policy, a response to industry demands. That same year, it acquired a couple of insurance firms and the cost of integrating them affected the company’s profits. However, in 2003, the hike rates in the insurance industry brought good fortune for the company because they witnessed an increase in revenues. In mid-2022, the company named Eric Andersen as its president.
