Sky UK was initially known as British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) and is the United Kingdom's
leading subscription television broadcaster. It has a market share of 61% of pay TV households in the UK. Sky UK provides broadband internet and telephone services within the country. It is also one of the major players in the film and entertainment industry in the UK.
Sky UK was formed in 1990 by Rupert Murdoch's News International company to provide satellite television services to British customers. The company started with a cable television service called Sky Television, later renamed BSkyB and then Sky UK. In 1992, Sky launched
its first satellite broadcasting service called Sky Digital and followed it up with another satellite service called Sky HD in 2006.
