The Jaguar Story

Unlike other companies, Jaguar started out as a company brand name. Jaguar was initially used in 1935 as a brand name for a SS 2½ litre sports saloon car. Another 2-seater sports model with a 3½ litre engine was branded SS Jaguar 100. Ten years later, the shareholders of SS Cars held a meeting in which they agreed to rebrand the company's name to Jaguar Cars Limited. According to the Board Chairman, "Jaguar" stands out and cannot be confused or linked with any look-alike foreign name.

The company had numerous buyers thanks to years of accumulated demand for its vehicles. However, Jaguar couldn't meet up because of the shortage of raw materials, especially steel which was issued by a central body under strict government regulation till the 1950s. Jaguar quickly established its name as a force to be reckoned with in the industry by manufacturing several attractive sports cars which had immense commercial appeal. These cars include the Jaguar XK120, Jaguar XK140, Jaguar E-Type, and Jaguar XK150. Aside from commercial success, these cars gained success in international motorsport, which highlighted the engineering quality of the company's cars.

In 1965, Jaguar merged with British Motor Corporation. Ford later acquired Jaguar, and during that time, it expanded its product range. In 2008, Ford sold Jaguar. Jaguar Cars eventually merged with Land Rover to become Jaguar Land Rover, and they share facilities.
