Colliers came into existence in 1976 due to a merger deal between Glynn Lynch & McHarg and Jones Lang Wootten & Sons. Two years later, the newly merged company agreed to a merger deal with Tony Petty & Associates, a Hong-Kong based firm. In 1984, Colliers had another merger with Macaulay Nicolls and then merged with American Realty Services Group the following year. In 2010, another merger happened between Colliers and FirstService, and Dylan Taylor assumed the office of president and CEO of the US operations of the firm.
