Brief History of Chanel

The origin of this fashion house dates back to 1909. This was the year Gabrielle Chanel established a millinery store in Paris. This location of the store also happened to be a favoured spot for the French upper class. This presented Chanel with the opportunity to get acquainted with fashionable women who were the subjects of displays of wealth by the creme de la creme. These displays included hats, jewellery, and high-end clothes. In 1913, a couple of Coco Chanel's couture stores sold ready-made sportswear for women. These clothes featured practical designs, allowing women to participate in sports comfortably.

When Chanel launched her No.5 Perfume, its financial success motivated the company to expand its sales beyond France and Europe. In 1953, Chanel collaborated with Robert Goosens, a renowned Jeweler, to design gemstones and bjiouteries as complements to Chanel outfits. The company started expanding in the U.S. in the 90s and, by 2002, had established 25 boutiques in the country. In 2018, Chanel relocated its global headquarters to London. Later that year, the company made a decision to ban exotic and fur skins from its collection.
