The BCG Story

BCG’s origins can be traced to 1963 when Bruce Henderson established it as the consulting division of Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company. Initially, BCG provided consulting and advisory services to the bank’s customers for a budget-friendly fee. That same year, Arthur Contas became the second consultant of BCG. In 1966, BCG gained ground in the Asian market by establishing an office in Tokyo. In 1967, Bill Bain joined the reins after being recruited by Henderson. It was expected that Bain would succeed Henderson as the head of the company, but that never happened.

Instead, Bain resigned from BCG and started his consulting and advisory firm. While at this, he left with six of BCG’s workforce. In 1974, Henderson decided to make BCG an independent consulting firm instead of a consulting company affiliated with a bank. He executed this idea by offering every employee a stock option. When all of the company’s stocks were bought in 1979, the company became independent. Boston Consulting Group came to the UK in 1970.

The company achieves unity in diversity by giving them a common goal and objective.
