Avison Young came into existence in 1996 through a merger of three companies, namely Graeme Young & Associates of Alberta, Avison & Associates of Ontario, and British Columbia. The company has experienced slow and steady growth since its inception in Canada. Barely a year after its establishment, the company started expanding domestically. In 2008, these offices merged into a single entity known as Avison Young Inc. The company gained good ground in North America when it opened branch offices in 8 of 10 major cities in the US. As of today, the company has a global workforce of 5,000 employees across 100 offices in 15  countries. The UK is among the territories Avison Young broke into during its international expansion.
