Brief History of Aston Martin

Aston Martin came into existence in the 20th century. Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin in 1913 established the company. They once partnered in a previous venture named Bamford & Martin to sell cars made by another company. Now, it was time to make theirs. Martin designed a car which he named Aston Martin. The car was built with a quad-cylinder Coventry-simplex engine which was attached to the framework of a 1908 Isotta Fraschini. The company produced its first car two years after its inception. In 1920, Robert Bamford stepped down as co-owner. Two years later, Bamford & Martin manufactured cars participating in the French Grand Prix and set global records for speed and endurance.

In 1925, the company experienced dire financial constraints, and Martin had no other option but to sell the company. The new owners renamed the company Aston Martin and relocated its headquarters. In 1987, Ford purchased a controlling interest in Aston Martin and eventually purchased the remaining stake six years later. In 2004, Aston Martin set up a large engine plant in Germany with a production capacity of 5,000 engines annually. This enabled Aston Martin to improve the engine capacity of its cars. In 2007, a group led by David Richards acquired Aston Martin for £475 million. In 2013, Aston Martin signed a deal with Mercedes Benz to manufacture its cars using Mercedes Benz engines. In 2o18, the company had its IPO and was listed on the London Stock Exchange.
